The Fun Begins!

...and what way to start the fun than by picking up a new vehicle! Ain't she a beauty?!

We decided to go with a mini-van since we needed the extra room for the kids (the Ford Focus just wasn't going to cut it) and I rode in many a mini-van growing up. It has more storage room and when it comes to durability on northern roads, I'll put my money on the new vehicle over the other one any day. Now, I'd like to think of this as my first vehicle. It sort of is since my name was on the cheque.....except for one little detail - my name doesn't appear to be on the ownership. And why you ask, would that be? Quite simply, I sort of neglected to get a license way back at a time when most young males crave one. I meant to get one eventually but then life just got in the way. And hey, I spent the last 6 years in Nunavut so its not like I was going to be doing any big road trips anyway. So, Lisa's name actually appears on the ownership and I guess I am now out of reasons for delaying getting my license.

When we got home with the new chariot, we saw that my containers from Nunavut that I had mailed last week had arrived. It only took a week which is excellent time considering the distance traveled and that we will be moving from Brockville in the next couple weeks. I add reluctantly, that this pile is only half of what I sent out. The first half arrived here a couple weeks earlier. Going through it all wasn't fun but a large chunk of it will be put into storage here.

Dude, way to clog up Mommy's living room with boxes of junk!

Let The Paperwork Begin!

Now that I've inked the contract, the fun paperwork begins. I won't bore you with what is pretty mundane stuff except to say that although I'm a bit behind (seeing as it took me longer than planned to move out of Nunavut), I'm now on top of things and hope to get the ball rolling shortly. I've already contacted a moving company (looks like we'll be going with Mayflower) and a rep is dropping by tomorrow afternoon to do a walk through the house and provide an estimate. I have to be in Chard/Janvier for August 26 to start work and I have an orientation conference in Peace River for August 20-21 so the rest of the summer will be crazy busy but exciting too.

Slowly Getting There

As noted on my other blog, Way Way Up, I am slowly getting things done. With luck I will be able to pay for shipping the rest of my belongings on Monday and fly out of Nunavut on Tuesday. On another good note, it appears that a long awaited package of information that I have been waiting for for some time from my school board has finally arrived (mail moves slowly above the Arctic Circle at times) and I'll be able to pick that up Monday as well. I was also able to track down my registration number with the Ontario College of Teachers as I need to complete certification papers for Ontario (where I took my teacher training) before I can start tackling all the Alberta paperwork. I let my membership with the Ontario College of Teachers lapse back in 2004 since I've never taught in Ontario, so at the time I didn't see the need to keep it up.

I'm not used to being in a situation where I have to rely on things that are not under my control. But once I can fly out of here back to Ontario I will be in a better situation to move the slow grinding process along. For the moment I can only sit and wait as there are a lot of things that need to fall into place.

A New Beginning

Those of you who followed me on my old blog, Way Way Up, can now join me as I start a new adventure. In June, I resigned my teaching position in Nunavut, where I taught high school for the past six years, to accept a grade 6/7 classroom position at Father R. Perin School in Chard/Janvier, Alberta.

I've changed schools a few times in my career but this time, I will not be heading to Alberta alone. Instead, I will be joined by my young family and I am very excited to have them with me! Read up on our new adventures as our little blended family settles into our new community.

Meet the family!

Nicholas aka Bumblebee

Elijah aka Beetle Bug

Lisa aka Beautiful

And of course, yours truly.
